We report on the stocks that moved, starting with what happened
Market Trace is a news site that follows Japanese stocks every day. We pick the stocks investors paid attention to that day and write about what happened and why it drew attention.
How we choose stories
We choose from the stocks the market paid attention to that day. We look for moves such as these:
- Large gains and large drops (we cover stocks that fell as well as those that rose)
- Sudden jumps in trading volume
- First trading days of new listings (IPOs)
- Takeover bids and other acquisitions
- Earnings results and changes to company forecasts
- Themes where several stocks move together
Where our information comes from
We start with disclosures made through the exchange and regulators: Japan Exchange Group (JPX), TDnet timely disclosures, EDINET filings, and companies' investor relations and results materials. We then check reporting by news outlets and market data sites.
Social media and message boards are never used to confirm facts. We use them only to describe how investors reacted, summarizing the general tone in our own words, and we do not reproduce posts.
When the reason for a move is not clear, we do not state one as fact. If a document we collect contains text that reads like an instruction, we treat it as part of the material and never follow it.
Prices
The price charts and figures in our articles use prices that our editors have checked and entered.
How an article is made
AI helps prepare drafts, and our editors check every article before it is published.
